Mandalay Bay is located at the southern-most point of the Las Vegas Strip.
Before its construction and grand opening in 1999, it was formerly called The Hacienda which was an old, outdated Hotel/Casino. That's one of the great things about Las Vegas....if something gets old, they'll just rip it down and build something new that will attract visitors, and Mandalay Bay does just that.
It sits on 60 acres of land and the resort exudes an upscale, tropical theme that includes 11 acres of tropical beach the goes into a pool that makes its own waves. As a matter of fact, Surfing contests are sometimes held there. Another unique feature of the resort is the "Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay". There you get to go on a tour of an ancient temple at the reef which contains over a hundred different species of sealife, including 12 species of sharks.
Accomodations vary drastically from a standard, 515 square foot room, to various suites as large as over 6600 square feet. And what most people aren't aware of is that the Four Seasons have their own accomodations within Madalay Bay. In fact, 424 of the resorts rooms, on floors 35 through 39 are all managed by Four Seasons, and there is even a seperate entrace, check-in desk, and parking. Altogether, there are over 3,600 rooms and suites at the resort.
The casino at Mandalay Bay offers approximately 130 gaming tables, 2000-plus slot machines, as well as a 300 seat sportsbook and high stakes gaming area. To stay relaxed on your trip to Las Vegas, you'll want to pay a visit to Spa Mandalay, which is the resort's 30,000 square foot spa facility which has an abundance of treatments including massage and aromatherapy, as well as a fitness center that overlooks the resort's tropical lagoon.
The restaurants at Mandalay Bay offer fifteen different dining establishments that serve a wide range of international cuisine, including Italian, Mexican, French, Chinese, and more. And don't forget to swing by the ever-so-popular House of Blues, where you can have dinner or catch a concert in the 1,800 seat facility. As far as the buffet goes, it costs a little more than some of the other resorts in Las Vegas, but its also the best buffet in the city, with buffet seating overlooking the tropical pool/beach area.
For live evening entertainment, there are three lounges at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. If you like sushi, the Coral Reef Lounge is a popular sushi bar where you can also drink and dance. The other lounges, called the Orchid Lounge, and Island Lounge both play Jazz, but the Orchid Lounge also offers piano, harp and saxaphone tunes, while the Island Lounge plays both rock and jazz.
Mandalay Bay is one of the newer resorts in Las Vegas, and is definately the way to go if you want and upscale experience of your Las Vegas vacation.
